Why AI video editors don't cut like you
Long-form editing repeats the same steps every week, and one-click AI edits miss your style. How agents turn your rules into a workflow that runs for you.

If you edit long-form video, you know the part of the job that has nothing to do with being creative. A 30-minute talking-head recording comes in, and before you can make a single real decision you spend hours on work that looks the same every week.
The work that repeats
- Cutting pauses, ums, stutters and the sentences you said twice.
- Cleaning up the sound and leveling it.
- Setting zooms so the jump cuts don't jump.
- Building subtitles, chapter titles and lower thirds.
- Adding the graphics, the sound effects and the export for every platform.
None of this is hard. It just takes time, and it takes the same time on every single video.
Why one-click AI edits miss
AI tools promise to take this off your plate, and many of them can. The problem is that most of them cut by one recipe for everyone. Your cut isn't a recipe for everyone. It is full of small decisions you make without thinking about them:
- You keep the pause before a punchline, because the joke needs it.
- You only zoom on numbers and names, never in the middle of a sentence.
- You subtitle the key sentences, not every word.
- A graphic never sits on top of your face.
- The sponsor read stays exactly as recorded.
A one-size edit gets these wrong. Then you are not editing anymore, you are fixing the AI's edit, and that can take as long as doing it yourself. Worse, you often can't see why it cut where it cut, and you can't change one step without running the whole thing again.
What we built instead: agents
In Lumenwerk you don't hand your video to a black box. You build an agent: your editing workflow, written down as steps, each one a real tool with settings you choose. Here is what the rules above look like as an agent:
- [Autocut](/tools/autocut) with the AI check on and the note "keep the pause before a punchline, leave the sponsor read untouched".
- [Studio Sound](/tools/studio-sound) to clean and level the audio, on your computer.
- Lumi Edit, the planning step, with its own instruction for each part: zooms "only on numbers and names", subtitles "only the key sentences", graphics "never over the face".
- A review point: the agent stops, shows you the plan, and only builds it once you approve.
- Outputs: an MP4 rendered in your browser, subtitles as SRT and a project file for DaVinci Resolve.
You write your rules once. After that, the agent runs them on every video. When something is off, you change that one step, not the whole edit. You can try the agent on a short excerpt first and see, step by step, what it did and what it cost.
Lumi helps you write it down
Most editors have never written down how they cut, because it lives in their hands. That is what Lumi is for. Describe your style in the chat, or paste a link to your channel and Lumi derives a style from your latest long-form videos. Lumi turns that into an agent, shows every change before it applies, and after a run suggests what to improve. If you would rather not start from zero, the template Lumi Full Edit plans and builds a whole edit, and you open it up and switch off or rewrite the parts that aren't you.
You stay the editor
- You decide where to check. Review points sit wherever you put them.
- Everything stays editable. The result lands in a multitrack editor modeled on DaVinci Resolve, and every step can be undone, agent runs included.
- Your NLE stays an option. Export the timeline to DaVinci Resolve if you want to finish there.
- Your footage stays with you. The video opens in your browser and is never uploaded. Only the audio track, text and, for some AI features, a few still frames go out.
What it doesn't do
To be clear about where we are: Lumenwerk doesn't watch your old edits and copy your style on its own. The style comes from what you tell it: your instructions, your references, your channel. And the creative decisions stay yours. The agent takes the steps that are the same on every video, so you have time for the ones that aren't.
Agents are experimental and come with the first beta in mid-November 2026. What changes for the product is in the agents update. If this sounds like your week, join the waitlist.
